Having Dr. Grimm as a professor was amazing. She was articulate and always made sure we understood the concepts that were taught. Assignments were useful for understanding and exams. On another note, she seems to really enjoy teaching this class which made me excited to learn as well.

Introduction to Philosophy

at St. Mary's University

This course introduces major questions, concepts, thinkers, and texts of the various branches of philosophy in three units: Existence & Knowledge, Life & Identity, and Others & Community. Students learn how to read philosophical texts, identify and evaluate arguments, and engage in philosophical collaboration with their peers.

Foundations of Ethics

at St. Mary's University

This course covers foundational writings in normative ethics and a selection of contemporary issues in applied ethics. Students learn the major moral frameworks of Aristotelian virtue ethics, Aquinian natural law theory, Millsian utilitarianism, Kantian ethics, and feminist care ethics. Students study opposing philosophical viewpoints on topics in applied ethics, like abortion, capital punishment, world hunger, and immigration. Students develop intermediate skills in critical reading, applied reasoning, and discussion. 

Philosophy in Latin America

at St. Mary's University

This course provides a survey of Latin American and Latinx philosophical thought from the pre-Columbian period to the contemporary period, including perspectives from marginalized communities in Latin America such as indigenous, decolonial, feminist/mujerista, and liberationist literature. Students develop advanced skills in philosophical writing and oral communication.  

Feminist Philosophy

This course provides a survey of feminist philosophical approaches to questions of sex, gender, and sexist oppression, including major theoretical and practical concerns in the struggle for gender justice. Students consider the importance of intersectionality and heterogeneity in the interpretation of feminist philosophy while examining the varied, criss-crossing histories of feminist movements.
